Theory

Whetstone straddles both the design and construction side of fabrication. We can maintain all the critical parts of design intent but still execute within the constraints of construction.

We control all aspects of production - starting with raw material, from design through to installation. This ensures complete matching of finishes and details. We’re not beholden to off-the-shelf components and finishes.

“I approach projects individually. I want each project to be spectacular and unique and unlike anything else out there.” -Isaac Juodvalkis, Founder

Methodology

We start projects with a conversation. We speak with the designer or contractor about their project and view inspiration images/drawings. We develop our understanding of the unique conditions and aesthetics.

From here, we work closely with the design team to distill the essence of the project. We pick up their design elements/details and reflect them back. We quickly move on to sketching and sampling in the shop. Once we have consensus on direction, we create 3D models in SolidWorks, and supply detailed shop drawings.

Our combination of sampling and CAD design allows us to fully realize all aspects and considerations of the project before fabrication begins. It’s a fantastic way to present finishes, and details; tactile and important aspects of a project that can’t be fully figured out in front of a computer. Our marriage of sampling and design work makes Whetstone’s fit and finish exemplary.
